If you desire to improve your health, you must create goals for yourself. Health Goal Planning is a process in which you are planning how you will take ownership and responsibility for your health and wellness. It not only includes, choosing a health insurance plan and a good healthcare team it also consists of focusing on health activities that will often positively shift your life.
Health Goal Planning Step #1: Focus on 3 areas of health.
There are 10 dimensions of health, including the following:
- Cultural
- Digital
- Emotional
- Environmental
- Intellectual
- Financial
- Occupational
- Physical
- Social
- Spiritual
All dimensions of health are interrelated and interconnected, impacting and influencing one another. While you may want to focus on every area of health all at once, spreading yourself too thin will likely lead to overcommitment, loss of motivation, and failure. Therefore, focusing on 3 areas of health at a time, will often increase your success rate and achieve a change in health.
How to choose what areas of health to focus on?
If you are seeking to improve their health and they don’t know where to start, I suggest you focus on the three (3) areas of health that when improved, will have the greatest impact on their lives. Here is a simple checklist that will assist you in choosing what three dimensions of health to focus on first.
- What areas of health are in a state of crisis? In other words, do the dimensions of health require immediate attention; and if it is not addressed will it result in high consequences?
- What areas of health, if worked on, will improve your life significantly within a short period?
- What areas of health can you begin working on immediately without the help of others?
Health Goal Planning can begin at any time of the year. You don’t have to wait until the new year to begin a new health journey. If or when a health crisis occurs, you must take immediate action. A health crisis can impact your physical health, finances, and environment. However, don’t wait until an area of health is in crisis to begin changing it for the better. Take control of your life by taking control of your health.
